Young Minds, Big Discoveries: What Our CREST Awards Learners Had to Say

This term at Young Minders, something remarkable unfolded. Our young scientists-in-the-making rolled up their sleeves, asked big questions, and dove headfirst into their CREST SuperStar projects. From exploring evolution to imagining prehistoric worlds, their curiosity lit up every corner of the classroom, and their feedback? Utterly inspiring.

What are the CREST Awards, and Why Do We Love It?

The CREST Awards are more than just certificates, they’re a launchpad for imagination, resilience, and scientific thinking. At Young Minders, we use CREST to spark curiosity, nurture essential skills, and help children see themselves as future innovators, engineers, and problem-solvers.

What Did Our Learners Say?

We heard it straight from the source:

“Yes, it was excellent!” “It was good!” “I enjoyed learning about evolution and prehistoric times.”

Their words say it all. These projects weren’t just fun, they were meaningful. Learners connected with scientific ideas in ways that were personal, exciting, and empowering.

Reflections That Matter

We gathered feedback across several key questions, and the results speak volumes:

How Do You Feel About Science?

Some children came in loving science. Others discovered a new appreciation—many said they now like science “a little bit more.”

Has Your CREST Project Changed How You Feel About Science?

Most participants reported a positive shift. It’s clear that child-led, hands-on exploration is a powerful way to build lasting interest in STEM.

What Makes a Great Scientist?

We asked our learners what qualities they think a good scientist needs. Their answers were thoughtful, insightful, and surprisingly mature:

  • Collaborative

  • Observant

  • Creative

  • Open-minded

  • Logical

  • Resilient

  • Imaginative

  • Communicator

  • Patient

  • Self-motivated

These young minds already understand that science isn’t just about facts, it’s about curiosity, teamwork, and perseverance.

Looking to the Future

When asked about future careers, many learners said they’d love a job involving:

  • Science & Maths

  • Engineering

  • Technology

It’s thrilling to see so many children beginning to picture themselves in STEM roles. The seeds of future scientists, engineers, and innovators are being planted right here.
